Welcome to Dwelling Moments Photography's FIRST blog post! I know that most people just start blogging and I probably should have done that, but for me I was caught up on "what could I share" that people would really care to read. It JUST dawned on me as I answered my door to a solicitor that I have something very COOL to share with you all!
So here goes.....thinking out the box. When someone comes to your door and offers their services, the immediate reaction would be either "yes I'm interested and want to know more or no!" For most people that is where the conversation stops. As a business owner and always looking for new markets and fresh ideas I decided to try something different.
Here is what that looked like~"Thanks Jim for your offer to trim our trees, but we are military and renting. If you have a business card I would be happy to share that with our management company." Seems simple enough, BUT here is where the tables were turned....I said "by the way I am a photographer and I am always looking for new businesses and people to work with....being a landscaper I would imagine that you showcase your work? Would you happen to have a need for a photographer? "Actually, YES we are looking for a photographer for not only our landscaping, but the owner wants photos of his family and employees in their gardens."
Okay so TOTALLY I about fell over....in 2 minutes flat we exchanged business cards and I now have an appointment set up to meet the owner and provide the photography they are looking for. That is a WIN-WIN for both businesses involved. That is the KEY to successfully moving your business from one step to another.
I am always "flying by the seat of my pants" as a photographer because I NEVER know what need will come my way and how I can be of assistance to someone, but I can tell you that if I would have been normal "Alaina" I would have said "no, we rent, have a nice day...the end!"
I encourage you to share your passion with others and "think out of the box"....you NEVER know what it will lead too. I would love for you to share with our readers your "out of the box" experiences. By sharing in this forum we can all learn and grow with one another.
Thanks for stopping by and stay tuned....who knows what the next post will be about, but I promise it will be worth reading!

Everyone's journey is different, but when you focus on what you are passionate about and love...by default new doors will open!
